As a trained Accelerated Learning Specialist, Millicent St. Claire brings a whole new concept for effective studying to your students in this multi-faceted workshop. Using tried and true accelerated learning methods, Millicent helps students unlock their potential for learning by actively involving the WHOLE STUDENT in the process. That means she incorporates physical activity, creativity, music, images, color, and other methods designed to get your students actively involved and taking responsibility for their own learning. This workshop introduces a variety of learning options that allows them to use all their senses and settle comfortably into their own preferred learning style.

Break on Through

Best described as an experience, not just another program, this session has the potential to change your life. Break through whatever is holding you back, and get ready to make your dreams become reality. Beginning with presenter-led discussion, participants are introduced to the concept of barriers, and obstacles. Barriers, in this program, are those things in our life that hold us back; that keep us from getting to where we truly want to be; things over which we have ultimate control. Each participant in the session will use a one-inch thick, twelve inch square piece of white pine board as a metaphor for their own obstacle/barrier. They are then coached on one of two techniques, using either the hand or the foot, to safely and successfully break the board – and break through their barrier.

Students and student leaders come away with an understanding of the basic leadership skills that can have an immediate impact on how they deal with and lead others. They will also see how fundamental leadership skills are a necessity for leading a successful life after college.

Connect-5 College Completion Program

The dynamic real world lessons of the Connect-5 Program are born of Tawan’s first-hand experiences as a struggling student, non-traditional student, successful student, student leader, and college administrator. Each STEP in the program specifically addresses the yearly needs of a student’s educational experience – from college prep to cap and gown. It’s a step-by-step, day-by-day approach to college success. Through the Connect-5 Programs students are encouraged to embrace their own unique college experiences and get everything they can out of their four years.

Connect-5 College Prep Guide – “Don’t even think about it! You’re going to college!”

Most students don’t go to college because they lack the information and confidence to negotiate the college application process. Furthermore, many students are never prepared to face the inevitable challenges that every college experience brings. This two-part program will provide information that will lay the foundation before applying to college, and will help pre-college students prepare for the potential academic, financial and social obstacles that prevent college enrollment.

Connect-5 Freshman Experience Guide – “WTF: Winning and Thriving as a Freshman”

The biggest challenge of every first year college student is successfully transitioning into their new environment. Often riddled and overwhelmed students struggle during their first year because they don’t know how to navigate their new environment or where to begin. Unfortunately, this leads to poor academic performance or student retention issues.

This program is the blueprint for helping students find success beginning day one of their first year of college. This program’s information is a great supplement to any orientation program because it is concise, memorable and gets straight to the point of what students need to know to win and thrive during their first year.

Connect-5 Junior Experience Guide – “Major Decisions: Success for now and the future”

During the junior year most college students are faced with making major decisions, which will determine the type of person they want to be and their role in society. However, when it comes to choosing their major, what major classes are most beneficial, deciding career or grad school, a lot of students don’t know where to start. As a result, these students often choose a major that isn’t right for them or make decisions based on timing (i.e., I want to graduate next Spring) instead of making an educated and supported decision. This program is designed to assist students in discovering the game plan that works for them as well as to help them navigate the transition from college undergraduate to college graduate and beyond.

Connect-5 Non-Traditional Student Guide – “You’re Not in Kansas Anymore: Successfully Transitioning Back to School”

It’s common for the non-traditional student to allow a setback to prevent them from making a comeback. That’s why it’s important to have a program in place that assists the non-traditional student in overcoming a variety of well-known setbacks to ensure success. This program is specifically designed to help non-traditional students to find academic success, connect to the campus community, balance school and work, and maximize their leadership potential on campus and beyond.

Connect-5 Senior Experience Guide – Cut the Hassle and Get Your Tassel”

After four years of higher education, some seniors get a little complacent and happenstance. This program is designed to give the senior college student a wake-up call and let them know it “ain’t” over ‘til they flip that tassel. This program will help college seniors get the most out of their last year of college and implement a plan of action to successfully transition to graduate school or their chosen career. This program is a must for any graduating senior.

Connect-5 Sophomore Experience Guide – “Dump the Slump: Powering Through a Successful Sophomore Year”

When students go to college for the first time, they are front loaded with information, support and resources. However, during their second year, students often return to campus without the same level of support they had during their first year. Sophomores often hastily choose a major only to change it again, adopt a “know it all” attitude, fail to ask for help, avoid new experiences, and fail to explore all of the options. In fact, research indicates that dropout rates are the highest during the sophomore year, which is often referred to as the sophomore slump.

For Real Men Only (I and II)

This country is facing a national crisis. According to national statistics, 1 in 9 minority men ages 20-34 are incarcerated; minority males contribute to most school disciplinary problems, and they represent less than 50% of the college population. While this information is daunting, there is hope. This interactive program is specifically designed to decrease the school dropout rate of minority males and improve the minority male achievement gap.

How to “B.S.” All The Way Through College!

Scoring high on the SAT and graduating at the top of your class does not ensure college success. This extraordinary program will cover the “do’s and don’ts” in order to “be successful” in college. It’s what no one else will tell you about college because… they don’t know!

How to Get What You Want out of Life

“Don’t sell yourself short!” That’s Dr. Earl E. Paul’s advice to the many students he’s mentored throughout his career. In this session, Earl discusses the basics of goal-setting and motivation that can help get you where you want to be in the different areas of your life. To achieve the kind of satisfaction we all seek in life – including the material, spiritual, financial, relationships, recreation and more you’ll find out how successful people have been achieving their goals. He shows students how to unlock their potential NOW instead of waiting until much of life has passed them by. This eye-opening session covers the importance of goal setting and the specific steps to follow to achieve goals. Your students will emerge with the understanding that most high achievers in any field are goal setters – and they’ll have the sights set on a positive future.

Leading and Succeeding as a Sophomore Student

The sophomore year is unlike any year in college. As research suggest, this is the year that students have the highest probability in dropping out because of lack of support systems in place. This program is designed to help give students the tools to become academically and socially successful their sophomore year and beyond.

Let Go of The Ridiculous and Get Going in College

In this program based on the hot-selling book entitled, “Simply Ridiculous!,” Personal Transformation Facilitator, Millicent St. Claire uses a creative and humorous approach to confront difficult topics students entering college often face. She discusses taking on new responsibilities, managing time, handling life’s stresses, our own ridiculous behaviors, buckling down to college life, and making responsible decisions in a non-threatening manner. Students will learn to identify when they’re being “immature and ridiculous” and the behaviors that lead to academic achievement or failure.

What I Wish They had Taught me in College About Life

In this powerful talk, Earl addresses the statement: “If I only knew then what I know now!” It’s a daunting realization that often dawns on us too late in life and he wants to take the first steps in making sure your students avoid that statement in their futures. In helping students ‘make the connection between college and life,” Earl draws on his own experiences as well as years of conversations and interactions with both students and successful adults. In addition to the academic rigors, Earl knows that students need solid, practical advice and what he calls the ‘other world’ of adulthood, careers, family and more. In this talk he shares insights on careers and college majors; metaphysical laws; financial literacy; goal setting and motivation; and healthy lifestyle practices – and shows students how to start down the path of ‘real-world-thinking.’
