What I Wish They had Taught me in College About Life

In this powerful talk, Earl addresses the statement: “If I only knew then what I know now!” It’s a daunting realization that often dawns on us too late in life and he wants to take the first steps in making sure your students avoid that statement in their futures. In helping students ‘make the connection between college and life,” Earl draws on his own experiences as well as years of conversations and interactions with both students and successful adults. In addition to the academic rigors, Earl knows that students need solid, practical advice and what he calls the ‘other world’ of adulthood, careers, family and more. In this talk he shares insights on careers and college majors; metaphysical laws; financial literacy; goal setting and motivation; and healthy lifestyle practices – and shows students how to start down the path of ‘real-world-thinking.’

If there was a course called ‘everything there is to know about life,’ it would teach you something practical that would help you out. It would share the kind of information that you know is out there, but you haven’t been exposed to it. And it just might help you in your life if you could hear it now – instead of when you’re old and it’s too late!

As a Student affairs Professional, Earl knows that college should be viewed as a place to learn subject matter as well as a place to develop life skills. In this course he offers a compilation of advice and observations arrived at through interviewing others, research and drawing from personal experience. As he seeks to help students make the connection between college and life he shares some “nuggets” in this workshop that will save students some pain and offer some insights that will aid them in college as well as in their lives after college. Topics discussed include: Careers and College Majors; Metaphysical Laws; Financial Literacy; Goal Setting and Motivation; Lifestyle and Health.
