May I introduce Dr. and Mrs. Punch Willard? They look like the perfect
couple, don’t they? But as we are invited into their lovely home, all is
laid bare.
Hurt So Bad: Exploring Domestic Violence through Interactive Drama invites
the audience into the Willard’s moving saga of a family struggling with the
horrors of emotional, psychological and physical abuse.
Utilizing gripping drama, music and spoken word, the audience doesn’t merely
observe. They participate in the story through audience-inclusive scenes,
character appeals and question and answer sessions. Dr. and Mrs. Willard become
flesh and bone to participants, as the real life ramifications of domestic
violence comes to life.
Through this interactive peek into a life which is both unimaginable and all
too real, students will learn:
-
The characteristics of emotional,
psychological and physical abuse
-
How to identify the signs of an abusive
relationship
-
Why people remain in abusive relationships
-
The dire consequences of remaining in abusive
relationships
-
Ways to avoid and escape abusive
relationships
-
How to help others in dangerous circumstances
The message behind Hurt So Bad is for any audience—whether previous abused,
currently in an abusive relationship or even if they just know someone who needs
support.
The numbers are staggering. More than 50% percent of women in the US will be
battered at some time in their lives. And over 30% of those battered will die at
the hands of a husband or boyfriend. Unable to believe anyone can understand,
these women suffer in silence.
Hurt So Bad: Exploring Domestic Violence through Interactive Drama is a
drama-based workshop designed to impact the personal lives of the audience,
raising awareness about a common but often unspoken issue.
“The dramatic presentation, Hurt So Bad, is extremely powerful and brings
to light many of the struggles that victims of domestic violence have to endure.
Your presentation provides an opportunity to see a great deal of real life
situations portrayed in such a powerful fashion.” - Gerald Stokes, VA
