How to Avoid Becoming a Victim of Date Rape
and Relationship Abuse on Campus

Statistics show that 15-20% of all female college students have experienced forced intercourse and 5-15% of their male counterparts admit to forced intercourse. In 41% of all violent crimes committed by college students, the offender was perceived to be under the influence of drugs/alcohol. Many victims are familiar with their offenders, at least on a first name basis—as is common in dating.
Using keys from her LiSENSE 2 DATE program, creator and College Love Coach, Dr. Torri “Love” Griffin, LPC instructs students on how to use common SENSE to remove NONSENSE so their relationships make SENSE. Every college student has an internal navigation system that gets set off whenever something their partner does looks strange, sounds suspicious, feels funny, smells fishy, or has no taste. Driving under the influence can blur the senses of brilliant and beautiful college co-eds and result in wrecks on the highway of love.
In this session students learn to:
- Safely navigate through dark and lonely streets and situations that often lead to unwanted sexual involvement
- Recognize, read and respond to important signs given by partners in relationships so they can avoid sudden, shocking surprises
- Know what to do if they get hit by another vehicle to avoid the cycle of abuse
- Know which way to turn when the first sign of violence appears—forward or reverse
- Recognize road rage in the rear view mirror and manage conflict with control
- Use a checklist to determine whether a partner is attempting to highjack their vehicle or simply hitch hike—so they can strategize to remove these leeches and gold diggers
- Successfully turn things around when they find out that they are heading in the wrong direction on a one-way street
- Know what to do when their internal ‘check engine’ light comes on
- Know what to do when they see such road signs as the stop sign, yield sign, merge sign, traffic light, dead end street sign, no u-turn sign, children playing sign, road work ahead sign, slow sign, pedestrian crossing sign, slippery when wet sign and more.
- Avoid becoming a date rape or relationship abuse statistic
- Take themselves off the road until needed repair work is done from a previous, painful encounter
- Get repaired from prior clashes and crashes and prevent themselves from hauling unnecessary baggage behind their vehicle
- Practice release strategies used to unhitch when dating is unproductive
- Use their internal navigation system to guide them into and through fun, enjoyable and beneficial relationships
- Keep their eyes on their academic destinations while enjoying satisfying dating relationships
